About Ian

Ian Chisholm was born and raised in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, the only child of John and Catherine Chisholm. Both of Ian's parents were born and raised in Glasgow, Scotland. However, Ian has traced his Chisholm roots back to Breakachy in Inverness-shire.

He received his Chartered Accountant (CA) designation in 1964 and then joined IBM in Toronto. Since then he has been involved, in one form or other, with the computer industry. In 1977 he moved to Victoria, British Columbia to join the newly formed BC Systems Corporation, the mainstay of the Provincial government's computing infrastructure.

In 1983 Ian married Catherine Belgue (nee Selby) and acquired an instant family of three stepdaughters; Mary, Lia and Sarah and one stepson, Michael. Ian Junior is his only child from a prior marriage.

Ian is semi-retired and continues to live in the Victoria area, located on the southern tip of Vancouver Island. Both he and Catherine are avid tennis players. In addition, they both enjoy walking and hiking both in and around Victoria and at numerous beautiful locations on Vancouver Island. Recent success at tracking down distant relatives on the Internet has whetted Ian's appetite for genealogy.

Ian has been a member of the Clan Chisholm Society, Canada Branch since its inception in 1997. He has been a Director of the branch since 1998 and was elected Canada Branch President in 2001, a position he held until 2005. Ian continues to serve the Clan Chisholm Society as Canada Branch Representative on the Society's Clan Council. At the July 2006 International Gathering in Scotland, Ian was elected Society Vice President.
